Debate: Have we forgotten the horrors of war?
November 11, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join speakers at the Hive for a Question Time-style debate with the Royal Society of Arts to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. On the 12 May 2014, Combat Stress charity reported a 57 per cent increase in 2013 in the number of ex-military personnel undergoing mental health treatment. As veterans who served in the armed forces continue to relive the horrors they experience, is it easy to overlook the hidden psychological wounds of war? Has the technological evolution of warfare meant that our fear of combat has reduced? Is it easy to forget the horrors of war when you cannot see it up close? We want to hear your opinion. The future prospects of the human race are at the heart of the joint RSA/Hive public debates. Join us as we debate the horrors of war and then for a book launch for The Home Front in Britain: Images, Myths and Forgotten Experience since 1914 (edited by Prof Maggie Andrews and Dr Janis Lomas).
Tickets available from The Hive, Level 1 information pod in the atrium.
