Exhibition: Voices of War
September 29, 2014 - December 31, 2014
The Voices of War exhibition will consider how the First World War was experienced by the people of Birmingham, drawing on the rich archive, photography and special collections of the Library of Birmingham. Focusing on the stories of local men, women and children the exhibition will explore a number of themes including the experiences of men at the Front, the war’s impact on children and families, the contribution of black and Asian soldiers, the changing role of women on the Home Front, Birmingham’s industrial support for the war effort, and debates around patriotism and pacifism in the city. The exhibition will be complemented by a programme of talks and events, online resources, and an accompanying book.
