Performance: Will Harvey’s War
July 30, 2014 @ 7:45 pm - August 2, 2014 @ 7:45 pm
Born in Gloucestershire in 1888, F.W. Harvey became one of England’s most popular war poets, writing much of his work during the Great War. To mark the centenary of the start of World War 1, the Everyman Theatre presents a brand new adaptation of Harvey’s unpublished novel “Will Harvey’s War”. Based on real-life facts from the life story of F.W. Harvey, the novel and play nevertheless remain works of fiction and adventure.
The Everyman’s professional company of actors will appear alongside local performers and musicians (including the Cheltenham Silver Band) to create this epic tale of Gloucestershire, the battle of the Somme and a final attempt at escape through the countryside of Westphalia.
This production marks the official launch of “Gloucestershire Remembers World War 1” – a programme of work presented by the Everyman Theatre, The Wilson Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, The History Press, Gloucestershire Archives and the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.
“Will Harvey’s War” is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
It plays at the Everyman Theatre from Weds 30th July until Saturday 2nd August 2014. Evening performances are at 7.45 pm. There is a Saturday matinee on the 2nd at 2 o’clock.
